Twenty years ago, naturalist Mark Carwardine and writer Douglas Adams went on a journey to seek out the Northern White Rhino, the Kakapo, the Yangtze River Dolphin, the Megabat, the Amazonian Manatee, the Gorilla and the Komodo Dragon. This selection of strange and amazing creatures represented just a tiny fraction of the endangered animals on the planet that face imminent extinction.

CSS2: The Universal Selector

Here’s a cool CSS2 selector that is often overlooked or not understood: *

It’s called the universal selector and is very powerful. It acts like a wildcard, is denoted by an asterisk and affects all available elements.

The universal selector can be combined with other selectors to style the descendants of a particular element or skip a level of descendants. This can be particularly useful when you have to support some older browsers that don’t implement CSS the same as other browsers – such as IE 6.

Beware the Goonch!

The goonch, a giant catfish, has aquired a taste for human flesh.

In this photo, borrowed from The Sun, are Jeremy Wade, two Kali River locals and a goonch.

According to a story in The Sun ( a U.K. News Publication) by TV Features Editor, Emma Cox, people who enter the Great Kali River along the India-Nepal border are in danger of being snatched and eaten by a giant species of catfish called a goonch.

The most dangerous things in the world…

The most dangerous things in the world aren’t physical – they are imaginary. The most dangerous things are what people BELIEVE. Beliefs are what people fight for – what they KILL for. Rationality often goes out the window. Common sense and logic are often warped or forgotten.

I don’t mean just one to one killings. I mean mass-murder, genocide, jihad, holy wars, economic wars, the destruction of entire societies and nations. All of this because of what groups of people BELIEVE – not because of what is necessarily TRUE and REAL.

It’s absurd, isn’t it?
