Adobe Flash Media Server 3 Admin Password Retrieval/Reset
So what do you do if somehow your admin password is no longer authenticating when you try to log into the Flash Media Server Admin Console on the web?
First, double-check that the password you are entering is being keyed correctly — check for case, caps-lock, etc. Still not working?
If you are the person who administrates the FMS on the server-side this is an easy fix. If you are not, then you will need to ask your server admin to resolve this for you because you need SSH access to the server if it’s hosted on LINUX or you need RDC access to the server if it is Windows.
Mine is LINUX so I’ll describe the fix from this OS perspective but it’s not much different on Windows. The key is to edit the fms.ini file within the fms application install folder.
- Open an SSH client (Terminal in OS X) and ssh to the LINUX server or RDC into your server on Windows
- Switch to root user access using su root or log in with admin rights on Windows
- Navigate to the application conf folder (for instance: /opt/adobe/fms/conf/ )
- Open fms.ini in an editor such as vi on LINUX or notepad on Windows
- Look for the line SERVER.ADMIN_USERNAME and verify that the admin username is correct
- Next look for the line SERVER.ADMIN_PASSWORD and either copy and paste the password shown here to your password manager app (or write it down) or type in the new password
- Save and close the file
- Restart the FMS and the FMS Admin servers
That’s it! The admin password should now authenticate properly and grant you access to the console.

On the lower right-hand side of the page, there are several links for adding my rss feed to your reader … Google, My Yahoo!, Bloglines, etc. If you click on the icon for your reader, it should take you to your reader page where you can confirm the add. If your reader is not in this list, you can click the “Posts” RSS feed link and copy that link into your reader ( http://run-amuck.com/blog/feed/ ).
