Flash Media Server 3 RedHat Linux Install – Error: Flash Media Server needs the NSPR library installed.
After installing FMS3 on a couple of brand new servers running RedHat Linux Enterprise, I found that the FMS server would not successfully boot even though there were no errors reported during the install.
The following error was produced when attempting to start the server from command line:
[accountname@servername fms]$ sudo ./fmsmgr server fms restart
Server:fms command:restart
NPTL 2.3.4
Stopping Adobe Flash Media Server (please check /var/log/messages)
fmsmaster: no process killed
Server has shutdown…
./shmrd: error while loading shared libraries: libnspr4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryStarting Adobe Flash Media Server (please check /var/log/messages)
Error: Flash Media Server needs the NSPR library installed.
It turns out that there is a known issue where the NSPR library doesn’t get installed in the system when RedHat Linux is installed. The library is called ibnspr4.so and is included in the RPM mozilla-nspr-1.7.6-1.2.5.i386 in the RedHat distribution.
For Adobe’s full explanation and resolution of the issue, follow this link and follow the instructions in the TechNote.
This solved my problem completely.
