Autumn Is Here And Good Things Are Coming!
It’s my favorite season of the year and here in North Texas autumn is a welcomed change from the blazing summertime.
We’ve been getting more rain than we normally do during this time of the year. But that isn’t all bad; the rain has brought us several days and nights that have been cooler than normal for this time of year here. With this change in the weather the urges to ride motorcycles, play outside and camp have been strong!
Additionally, we bought T a kayak a couple weeks ago and M and I are shopping for kayaks for ourselves. We rented a couple from Heart of Texas Kayaks. These folks offer outstanding service and super-fair deals on kayaks and equipment. Their rental rates are also incredible – $25/day!
It looks like M will end up getting a Wilderness Tarpon 100 and I’m leaning toward a Heritage Redfish 12. But I want to rent and try a Manta Ray 12 first. I tried out the Manta Ray 11 but wasn’t crazy about it … it felt smaller than the Tarpon 100 and only has one storage hatch. I’d like a small storage space near the seat in addition to the main one and the Manta Ray 12 has it.
Crisp air and clear blue skies always give me an immense sense of well-being. Nothing else does quite the same thing for me.
There are a couple of camping opportunities coming up this month and next month that I’m looking very forward to as well …
Taylor has joined up with a new Boy Scouts den here in Grapevine (part of the Longhorn Council) and we will be camping out with them around the middle of the month. It should be a great time and will give Taylor and me a little bit of bonding time as his mom is sitting this one out. I think it will be at Lake Whitney and the den seems to be a good group of boys and parents.
The first weekend of November is on my calendar for a “guys-only” camping trip for men in the family around here. I’m in charge of planning this one since it was my idea. I’d really like to hike out to a good camping spot but a couple of the fellas have expressed concern about getting their coolers back into remote areas. (Sheesh!) So I guess I’ll just arrange a car-camping sort of thing. Maybe Bonham State Park, Dinosaur Valley or Cedar Hill? I’m looking at places that are within a 2-hour radius to keep it easy for everyone to get to since we’re all busy folks these days.
Two days camping out with the guys should be a good time. It’ll be relaxing too … no women, no kids and no pets. Just guys, meat to grill, booze and maybe a ballgame on a radio.
This weekend I get a free-pass, too! M will be out of town with her family and T will be away with his dad. So I plan to see the play, “Julius Ceasar,” with friends Allen and Wendy at Shakespeare Dallas and to see the movie, “Zombieland.” Nice!
