Being interviewed for the nightly news
A group of us from JWT were out to lunch at Champps today and FOX News interviewed a few of us about the current hullabaloo regarding Fantasy Football.
Apparently, four guys got fired from their job for participating in Fantasy Football at work. Their company has a strict policy against gambling (obviously NOT an advertising/marketing firm!) and these guys got terminated due to it. SUCKS to be them.
Anyway, I don’t play but certainly don’t see any harm in it as long as it doesn’t interfere with people getting their jobs done. So that’s what I told the news.
Will I get 15 seconds of fame (or even 5 seconds)? I don’t know – it was footage for the 4 o’clock news and I’ll be working — not watching tv!
Capt. Charles Moore On The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
We live in a disposable society that was created along with the invention of plastics following World War II. Convenient, disposable products were created to “free the common housewife” from the drudgery of cleaning and reusing household goods. Unfortunately, there was little thought or concern given to the long-term existence of the refuse or how to deal with it.
In this talk from TED.org, Captain Charles Moore, the discoverer of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, talks about his findings and our future with non-biodegradable trash in the world’s oceans.
The Sort Of Spam Blog Comment That Bugs Me The Most …
I decline and delete a whole lot of spam comments every day just as anybody else with a blog does. And I get huge amounts of porn, product and other types of spam. But this example is the sort of spam that bugs me the most.
I will state for the record that I am anything but a religious person. I’m not an athiest but I really really hate having religious views pushed on me.
Racism is another one of my pet peeves. Seriously, this sort of bullshit has NO place in my world. So to have spam pop up on my site that combines BOTH evangelical religious views and racism combined in a single message makes me want to go postal. (more…)
Alternative To Running An Application As A Windows Service
Here’s a situation that I recently encountered that presented an interesting challenge…
I was working with a Windows Server on which I needed to run a Java application as a Windows Service so that the app would not shut down as I logged off of my Remote Desktop Connection session. The kicker was that my user account for that server does not have sufficient permissions to set up a Windows Service for it.
